On being a law librarian
Sabrina at BeSpacific, and Steven at Library Stuff both talked about the American Lawyer survey on law librarians. Sabrina mentions specifically quotes the area of the survey that points to increased use of librarians for market research and competitive intelligence.
I love my job as a law librarian, and part of what I love is the variety. I enjoy legal research, but I also enjoy market research and competitive intelligence. Competitive intelligence is a particularly fascinating and growing field. Librarians are increasingly finding roles in these niche markets. I was even a student member of SCIP.
I am surprised the survey didn’t get more into librarian roles in intranets or knowledge management. I know that many librarians have an increasing role in their firms in these areas.
