Webvisions 2007: Social Architecture
One of the reasons Webvisions is so great is that it’s like sitting in a room with the web developers who are making modern applications and listening to them think out loud. This session by Sean Madden very much felt that way. I was impressed with his presentation, and then impressed to find he just finished The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami (one of my favorite novels), and Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk (one of my favorite authors), impressed me even more.
Some thoughts from the session:
- He divided social sites into two groups, passion-centric (like dogster) and “passion-agnostic” (like myspace).
- Talked about Ubiquitous Computing.
- He talked about the potential for using something like QR Codes for electronically identifying physical locations.
- He mentioned Calm technology and Beautiful Seams from Mark Weiser.
- He mentioned Theo Jansen who I’d never heard of. But reading up on it, seems like he does fascinating work.
